The 15th annual Walking Stick competition took place at Sidmouth Golf Club and, as usual, it was splendidly organised by the originator of the event, Barry Jones, writes Hugh Dorliac.
A record number of past, present and next year’s seniors’ captains played an individual stableford competition in the morning, followed by a get together when their ladies and non-playing past captains joined them for a delightful lunch.
The most senior of those present was Bill Bailey, senior’s captain way back in 1992, and his wife Sheila. Bill was captain before most of those present even qualified as seniors!
The result of the competition saw Ray Gunston’s name added to the trophy for the third time.
Ray, who won the trophy in 2010 and 2015, took the honours with an excellent score of 40. The runner-up was next years captain Tony Stoyle back on 34.
