Sidmouth Warriors were edged out by the odd goal in three when they contested the Exeter and District Youth League Under-13 League Cup final at the St James’ Park home of Exeter City.

Warriors were up against Division Two champions Alphington Panthers who lost just once in their league campaign. Panthers scored the only goal of the first half and doubled their lead after the break.

However, Warriors never gave up and set up a grandstand finish when Harry Emmett netted from a Jack Howe corner with five minutes remaining.

Sadly, that was as good as it got for Warriors for whom a proud coach, Bill Emmett, said: “I am proud of each and everyone of the lads for they all gave everything they had. We met a very confident Alphington side who were sharp up top and solid in defence, but we gave as good as got for long periods.”

The Warriors back four had a fine game with Josh Miller and Calvin Clifford serving up the stand-out performances.
