Sidmouth Warriors Under-9s enjoyed back-to-back wins when they were faced by Hemyock and Feniton Flames in their latest Exeter and District Youth League games.

The Warriors’ confidence is high after an impressive start to the season and they were soon taking charge of their first game which paired them with Hemyock.

Joe Anning gave them an early lead before a superb second doubled the lead. James Plowden, who starred throughout from a midfield berth, played a pin-point 20-yard pass that arrived at Anning’s feet and the youngster, with his back to goal, flicked the ball up and, on the turn, struck the ball on the volley into the far corner leaving the keeper absolutely no chance, even the travelling fans applauded the skill and confidence of the finish!

Riley Pugsley added a third with a fine strike before the visitors got one back despite a terrific effort to keep the ball out by Haiden Clapp in the Warriors goal.

Reggie Reed restored the three goal lead before, and most fittingly, Anning had the final say, finishing what he started with his teams fifth and final goal, completing a second successive hat-trick in the process.

Next up, against Feniton Flames, a well contested game saw the deadlock broken when Warriors defender Reece Hext unleashed a fierce strike from the half way line and as the Feniton defender tried to get out of the way he only succeeded in getting a slight deflection and wrong footing his keeper!

Feniton levelled, but Anning continued his rich vein of scoring with a quick-fire brace to see Warriors into the break 3-1 up.

Reggie Reed increased the lead in the second half before Feniton netted a second. The prolific Anning then completed his second hat-trick of the morning and there was still time for Feniton to net a third.

Warriors’ coach Bryn Clapp said: “I could not be more pleased with everyone involved in the squad. Each one seems to growing individually and certainly they are developing well as a team.”
