Sidmouth Town Under-9 Warriors launched a new season of home action with games against a brace of Cullompton sides.

In the first game they took on Cully Cobras and started brightly, passing the ball well and dominating possession.

A slick move opened up the visitors defence to see the scoring opened. Sydney Ridgeway picked up the ball in his own half before releasing Reggie Reed down the right wing and his cross was met by Joe Anning who applied a clinical finish.

The lead was doubled thanks to a fine finish from Ridgeway with his first goal for the club after some excellent work by Reece Hext.

Anning then made it three when he controlled a 20-yard ball from James Plowden and rifled the ball home.

Cobras hit back with a goal before the break, finally getting the better of a solid Warriors defence in front of Haiden Clapp who was playing in goal despite a swollen finger after being stung by a wasp in the warm up!

After the break Reed made it 4-1 and, after Cobras had bagged their second, Anning completed his hat-trick to round off the scoring.

Next up Warriors took on Cully Scorpions and some bright early play was rewarded by a fine finish from Reece Hext.

The Warriors defence looked in fine form especially Tom Barrett who was dealing with everything comfortably, Anning then followed up his first game hat-trick with two more fine strikes following some great work by Alex Goody and Scott Monroe-Higgs and Warriors added a fourth with a well-taken and deserved goal for the tireless Riley Pugsley who held off two defenders before beating the keeper from the edge of the box.

Despite conceding late on Warriors were not to be denied a splendid 4-1 win.
