Sidmouth welcomes sailors
SIDMOUTH will be hosting a national dinghy competition from Saturday, August 21.
SIDMOUTH will be hosting a national dinghy competition from Saturday, August 21.
Eighty boats will arrive in town on Saturday for The Laser 2000 Class Association’s 2010 championships.
Races will start at noon on Sunday. There will then be two races each day throughout the week, starting at 11am, except Wednesday, a rest day, and Thursday, when it will start at 2.30pm so members of Sidmouth Sailing Club can attend the funeral of David Keast, a former Commodore and club president.
While the sailing will take place quite a way off shore, there will be plenty to see from the Esplanade with the boats launching about 45 minutes before races start.

As a Laser 2000 requires a crew of two and the class is very family orientated it is anticipated there will be around 200 people coming to town, all staying locally and boosting the economy.
The sailing club has arranged various events for the sailors to enjoy, from formal receptions to a night of family games at Sidmouth Rugby Club.

There may be some traffic delays as boats arrive; they will be parked on the Ham for the duration of the event, sponsored by Sidmouth Town Council, Everys Solicitors and Halls Estate Agents.
