It was a wild and windy weekend at Sidmouth Golf Club, but despite the extremes of weather, the fourth round of the winter competition was still played as a texas scramble, writes John Barnard.

The course was in remarkable condition considering the overnight rain, and it didn’t stop Ross Willmington, Nick Gingell and Mike Smedley recording an excellent 52.0, 14 shots better than par.

Just to remind you, each player has to have four drives recorded. All three players tee off, the best drive is chosen, all three play from that spot, the same with the next shot until the ball is in the hole. Each player contributes 20 per cent of their handicap (so if your handicap is ten, you contribute one shot and this is deducted off the gross score once the round is completed).

In second place were Jeremy Holden, Lester Willmington and Neil Holland with 53.0 and then Mick Baden, Gary Linnen and Kym white were third with 53.6

After four rounds of the winter league, Les Pratt leads with 11 points, Kym White is one back and Mike Smedley is third with ninwe points.
