Sidmouth’s East Devon League team lost their second match on the trot when they went down three matches to two against Padbrook Park in the contest played at Fingle Glen, writes John Rockey.

Team captain Nick Gingell was hoping for an improvement to the team’s fortunes, but whilst the loss was only by one point, it did nothing to help the team’s position in the lower end of the league table.

Sidmouth got off to a poor start when the first two pairings of Martyn White and Trevor Kerridge as well as Chris Lewis and Steve Crabb lost.

However, there was a brief respite when the third pairing of team captain Gingell and George Barber won, only for this to be offset when Paul Hitchcock and John Barnard lost.

Sidmouth’s last pair of Moray Boscence and Merv Baker managed to pull another point back and bring a bit of respectability to the match score.
