Once again, Sidford’s nonagenarian Betty Smith, founder member of the Sidford Short Mat Bowls Club, has won an inter-club competition.
Having already won the club’s singles handicap competition in May, her enthusiasm, skill and commitment for the game saw her through to winning the club’s Paris Challenge in November with her partner Tony Lavers.
Betty also reached the singles final that was held the same afternoon!
Unfortunately, she was unable to complete the double and lost out against the club’s chairman, Harry Townsend. There is always next year, Betty!
The club celebrated its annual Christmas club luncheon at the Kingswood and Devoran Hotel and took the opportunity to present the winners and runners-up with their well-earned trophies.
