A tantalising local derby evolved during the final league match of the season.

By Jane RobertsOttery Crickets' Ladies' 2nd Xi 1, Honiton Hornets Ladies 1st XI 2A tantalising local derby evolved during the final league match of the season between Ottery Crickets Ladies 2ndXI and Honiton Ladies 1st XI.At first, Ottery were slow to respond to a quick Honiton attack and found themselves under early pressure from short corners. However, Ottery soon regained their composure and had a few chances which narrowly missed the goal.Mo Mylne and Caren Flicker both kept cool heads under pressure and made crucial tackles to prevent the Honiton attack from gaining an upper- hand. Poor umpiring meant that Ottery had to defend two unjustified short corners which Honiton capitalised upon and scored from.Not to be outdone, Mylne found herself positioned perfectly at the post to score Ottery's only goal from a short corner. Unfortunately, Micky Cox narrowly missed the goal from a similar situation and Norma Rich had her attempt disallowed. During the second half, Ottery played far better, but still found the Honiton defence similar to solving a riddle, which meant that no more goals ensued.Although Ottery did not get their final win for the season, Captain, Jan Moore, congratulated her team on finishing a creditable sixth and for being an amazing and supportive group throughout the whole campaign.
