A HEALTHY crowd for a Sunday friendly at the Fort Field saw Simon Sobczak come very close to a maiden century for Sidmouth in the match against Old Warwickians, writes John Goodwin.
In the closing overs of the home side's 40-over entitlement, he was bowled for 95 after regularly piercing the field with crisp drives.
With Josh Bess making 81 at opener, Sidmouth made 246-8, a clatter of wickets coming in the push for runs at the end of the innings.
The Midlands side lost early wickets to Will Murray and were not able to recover, eventually being bowled out for 177. In two spells, Murray took 5-26.
Tim Drake, Sam Richardson and Anthoy Griffiths took a wicket apiece and even wicketkeeper Marc Jenkins got in on the action, ending the innings with the fourth ball of his one and only over.
