Sidmouth and Ottery (SOHC) ladies’ were beaten by the odd goal in five when they hosted Redlands UWE.
The visitors started brightly and scored on the break inside ten minutes. They swiftly added a second before SOHC found their feet in the contest!
The comeback was begun by some strong runs from midfield which led to then pressure building around the Redlands D and it was no more than the home side deserved when a textbook strike from Karen Dutton sent her side into the break just 2-1 down.
In the second half SOHC continued to work hard and they were level thanks to Maisie Pritchard who executed a confident drive into the D before rifling the ball home into the left hand corner of the net.
Throughout the match SOHC goalkeeper Hayley Delasalle made some outstanding saves and young Emily Ackland was responsible for some tremendous defending whilst, as a team, they resisted a number of opposition short corners
Alas the comeback was not to end successfully as Redlands netted the winner from a short corner.
There was still time for a frantic finish in which SOHC did all the oppressing, but, despite winning a number of short corners, that elusive third goal was not forthcoming.
Overall this was a tremendous team effort against a very strong opposition side. The SOHC Player of the Match award went to Maisie Pritchard for her excellent goal and strong support in the centre.
