Sidmouth and Ottery ladies (SOHC) second team were involved in an epic encounter that produced an end-to-end game of nine goals with SOHC emerging victorious.

Visitors Ashmoor were put under early pressure as SOHC moved the ball around well using the full width of the pitch and it was no more than the home side deserved when Anna Rowson set off on a mazy run that ended with her reverse flicking the ball into the far corner of the net from the D.

Ashmoor counter-attacked with serious pace and guile, hit back and then took a 2-1 lead to hold a small half-time advantage.

After the break both teams threw themselves into attacking mode! The action was fast and furious and a delight to watch – for then neutral supporter!

Ashmoor moved the ball well, but got little change out of the home defence of Lizzie Nancekivell, Lucy Lefebvre and skipper Helen Ackland who all made superb last-ditch tackles and defended individually, and collectively, as if their lives depended on it!

Only goal line clearance at a corner by Anna Akers denied the visitors a third goal, but eventually the pressure told and the visitors extended their lead, first to 3-1 and then to 4-1.

With just 10 minutes remaining many of the home faithful could have been forgiven for thinking the game was a lost cause,. However, the players o the pitch had no such thoughts and mounted a stunning recovery!

Sam Parkyn rifled a powerful shot home to launch the comeback and almost immediately Nicky Lockyer showed her skill and determination by winning and scoring a flick and then cracking home a field goal to level things up at 4-4.

Ashmoor looked understandably shell-shocked! With the clock ticking down Emma Dalton and Becky Davies showed adventure and enthusiasm to drive the team forward for one last attack.

The ball was fed to Anna Akers who executed a perfect dummy movement to throw an opponent off balance which gave her time to fire the ball to the far post where it was met by Teresa Grabauskas to fire home the winning goal and launch amazing celebrations on and off the pitch at Ottery.

On Saturday the ladies travel to Dawlish to face Teign II with a noon start.
