Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) ladies first team suffered cup heart ache as they went out of the Devon Trophy at the semi-final stage, beaten on penalty flicks by Plym Valley at a wet and windy Lipson Community College in Plymouth.

Even getting the tie to penalty flicks had looked unlikely with the team 2-0 down early in the second half, but a superb fight with some superb passing and some terrific inter-play, particularly involving Nicky Lockyer and Jasmine Scott, and a brace of goals from Karen Dutton took the game to penalty flicks.

Despite a great effort from SOHC goalkeeper Becky Delasalle, the penalty flick shoot-out went the way of Plym Valley.

The ladies return to their Petroc Division One campaign on Saturday week (February 25) with a home game against an Exe V side they beat 6-1 in Exeter back in October.

With just four points separating SOHC in fourth place from second placed Dart – Isca V are third – there’s much to play for over the final five games of the league season.
