SOHC men’s first eleven take on table-topping Chippenham on Saturday (February 20).
The match is being played at Sidmouth (1.30pm). SOHC go into the contest in good form, last Saturday’s 4-0 win at Team Bath was a second successive clean sheet away success and a fourth victory on the spin.
However, Chippenham have proved themselves to be the top side in the Central One division having won 16 of their 17 matches so far and they beat SOHC 5-0 when they met for the first time this term in November.
With just three to play after the Chippenham meeting, SOHC will look to hang onto their current sixth place position. Finishing any higher than that, now looks unlikely.
The men’s second team were edged out by the odd goal in three at Ottery last weekend at the hands of East Devon. The defeat extended the run without a win for the home side to 15 games!
This weekend they travel to ECVH A with whom they shared four goals when the team met at Ottery back in November. Already consigned to a bottom two finish, the second team must win this next game to have any chance of avoiding a rick bottom finish in the Southern One table.
The men’s third team went down 9-2 at Isca D last weekend. This coming match day they are in action at Sidmouth with a noon start for their meeting with ECVH B. With the visitors having lost 17 of their 18 outings so far, conceding 106 goals along the way, there’s every chance of a home success! A similar result to the 3-1 score line enjoyed by SOHC III in the first meeting this season and the teams chances of finishing in the bottom two will be virtually gone.
The men’s fourth team lost 2-1 at Chard. That was a fourth successive loss for the side who are in action this weekend at North Devon A. Already consigned to a bottom two finish, the SOHC team travel knowing they are in for a tough time against the table-toppers. However, when the teams met at Ottery in November, SOHC did manage to score two goals.
The men’s fifth team suffered a third straight defeat when they lost at Taunton last weekend, That was also a third successive outing in which the team have failed to score,.
They’ll try to change that sequence on Saturday when they got to Tiverton. However, if the first meeting this season is anything to go by (Tivvy won 11-0), then its going to be another tough afternoon for the team on Saturday!
