Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men’s fifth team face a ‘day of destiny’ this Saturday when they take on the only team who could yet deny them the South East Three title, Isca E.

The game, in Exeter, kicks-off at 4.30pm and if SOHC avoid defeat then they will seal the title.

If they were to suffer a defeat then Isca would need to win at Bridgwater D seven days later to deny SOHC the title.

In their penultimate outing, the SOHC fifth team were 5-0 winners at home to East Devon.

Such was the control of the contest enjoyed by SOHC that goalkeeper Dan Weedon had little to do. Goals from Rich Lucas and Hadley Wilson gave SOHC a 2-0 half-time lead.

Captain Andy Dockley extended the lead before Andrew Coley netted a fourth with a reverse stick finish from close range.

The final goal came from a ‘well-rehearsed’ short corner routine involving Dockley, Coley and Wilson before Rich Lucas pushed the ball over the line.

Now attention turns to that big final game at Isca!

? Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club 2nd XI had their relegation from Southern Two confirmed after they went down 4-0 at home to Caradon.

In a contest that typified the campaign for the team, they put in loads of effort and enjoyed plenty of territorial advantage, but once again could not find a way of converting chances into goals.

In stark contrast, visiting Caradon made three slick breaks in the first half and found the back of the net each time.

Caradon added a fourth in the second half to leave SOHC suffering another all-round frustrating afternoon.

The hope is that the team can now regroup for next season when they will hopefully not endure the sort of lengthy trips they have this campaign.

It is also hoped they will be able to enjoy that winning feeling once again!

Tomorrow (Saturday) the 2nd XI are involved in an in-house derby game when they play the SOHC 1st XI, who were crowned league champions last weekend.
