It has been a tough season for Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club’s men’s fifth team with many heavy defeats and very few goals, but it is important to find the positives and on Saturday they won... a short corner.

Not only that, the team also put in a resolute performance against a very good Ashmoor team, which earlier in the season triumphed by 20-0.

Such was the resolve of the team that the visitors scored ‘only’ four times in the first half and just three times in the second.

Ashmoor mounted many attacks with some free-flowing passing moves and high-quality stick skills.

The defeat was clearly a heavy one but the morale of the side throughout the game remained intact and espite frustration with letting the goals in, there were several goal-line clearances to keep the visitors at bay and at least keep them to single figures.

The fifth team heads off to Bridgwater this weekend for their last away fixture of the season and hope to achieve a positive result.
