Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men’s fifth team will be involved in a tense affair on the final Saturday of the South East Three league season.

Indeed, there could not be more at stake when SOHC, who have led the table since the early weeks of the campaign, travel to Exeter to meet second-placed Isca E in a match that they must avoid defeat in to be crowned league champions.

SOHC would already be the division’s champion team had they not twice had points deducted owing to selection woes further up the playing chain at the club, which left the only other side that could deny them the top honour, Isca E, being able to set up this forthcoming final day ‘title decider’.

Isca E won their penultimate game of the season, beating hosts Bridgwater D 5-2. It all means that SOHC fifths are top, two points better off than Isca E, who clearly have to win the game in Exeter next Saturday (March 24).

A draw or an away win and the title will be SOHC’s.
