The Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club men’s fifth team duly made it an 11th win in 12 games with a 3-0 home win over Bridgwater.
It was the third time this season that the fifth team have beaten the Somerset side.
The team’s lead at the top of the South East Three table is now a dozen points and they meet the second-placed side – Isca E – on the final Saturday of this month when an SOHC success would all but wrap up the title!
Strangely, in a campaign when the fifth team have been so dominant in their league campaign, the clean sheet against Bridgwater was only their third shutout of their 12 games played so far this season. With eight games to go, victory this Saturday in their game at East Devon D (the match takes place at St Lukes School in Exeter with a 2.30pm kick-off) and success the following Saturday in their meeting with second-placed Isca E, would mean SOHC could go into February with a 15 point lead and just 18 points to be played for!
