Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) boys’ Under-16 team completed their matches in the national tournament group stages when they travelled to Bath Buccs.

SOHC made a bright start and kept possession well, passing it with precision, but the home side pressed the ball high up the pitch and were clinical in the way they took any chances that came their way. Half-time arrived with the home side leading 5-0.

SOHC tweaked their formation in the second half and the game became more open with SOHC fashioning chances in and around the Bath D. However, despite great effort, SOHC were unable to find a consolation and, at the other end of the pitch, Bath added three further goals to win 8-0.

Despite the one-sided nature of the score, SOHC can hold their heads high after a battling performance against a well-drilled home squad of 15 whereas SOHC travelled with the bare 11.

What is clear after the team’s first experience in a national tournament, is that the future looks bright as some talented SOHC youngsters gain more and more experience and all should aspire to play in the club’s senior 1st XI in the near future.
