A famous new name in the Seaton 1st XI marked his debut with a couple of wickets on a glorious Bank Holiday weekend, but it wasn't enough to save his side from defeat to A Division leaders Tavistock as the sun finally beamed down on the Tolchards Devon Cricket League.
Mali Marshall is the 31-year-old son of the late West Indian star Malcolm Marshall, one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time.
Seaton skipper Ben Morgan admits he didn't realise the family link until Mali, who was recommended to the club, joined up.
But, although he may not have reached the heights of his dad, Marshall Jr from Barbados is a fair performer in his own right, and he took 2-23 at the weekend, removing both the Tavistock openers.
Tavistock were dismissed for a gettable 207, but Seaton's batting failed them, as they finished the day 110 all out.
Marshall will achieve a little more celebrity when forthcoming Indian-made film '83', about the WI's first World Cup win in 1983, is released this summer.
Mali, who grew up in Southampton during his father's days with Hampshire, plays him in the movie.
Sandford are the new Premier Division leaders after a 56-run win over Sidmouth.
The game was swung by an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 81 between Sandford's Adam Small (75no) and Trevor Anning (53no), carrying their side to 262-6, and Alex Barrow's patient 88 and a brisk 39 from Henry Gater could not save Sidmouth from 206 all out.
Sidmouth (5th) travel to Plymouth this Saturday.
Sandford entertain Paignton (3rd) and Exeter and Exmouth, both struggling in these early weeks, meet at the County Ground.
Other fixtures for local clubs: A Division - Budleigh Salterton v Cullompton, Torquay v Seaton, Bradninch v North Devon; B - Thorverton v Kilmington; C East - Sidmouth II v Sandford II, Braunton v Clyst St George, Exmouth II v Upottery, Shobrooke Park v Ottery St Mary, Whimple v Exeter II; D East - Feniton v Uplyme/Lyme Regis, Chardstock v Sidmouth III.
