The Government announcement on a lockdown roadmap this week has finally given hope for a return to sport.
As it stands, the plan is for many outdoor adult sports to restart on March 29, including golf, tennis and basketball courts.
It is even better news for children’s sport, which has been prioritised in the planning to allow regular PE lessons and outdoor after-school sports to resume on March 8.
Inevitably, there has been a significant drop in levels of activity among young people over the past year and restarting sport before Easter will hopefully see a surge in participation for the holidays.
It is going to be a longer wait for indoor sports, with May 17 earmarked as the date for resumption, the same time as the rule of six takes effect for indoor gatherings.
Gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres are pencilled in for April 12.
