Sidmouth Squash entertained second placed Exeter Golf & CC at Sidmouth Leisure Centre and, despite winning the opening two rubbers, lost out on the evening 3-2 (16pts-6), writes Rob Cann.
Following wins for Rob Cann 15-17; 15-12; 16-14; 15-11 over fellow fifth string Brian Copp, and Paul Clare’s 10-15; 15-9; 15-8; 15-10 victory over Richard Hounds, Sidmouth could not secure the third game need for victory as third string Alick Russell lost out 10-15; 12-15; 13-15 to Golf & CC captain Mark Starling.
Nigel Desousa lost 14-16; 10-15; 8-15 to Al Hutchings and top string Chris Marriott was defeated 9-15; 8-15; 7-15 by an excellent No 1 Jonny Horne.
The team’s next game is away to Devon & Exeter Squash Club 8ths, where victory is required to maintain a mid-table position.
