Persistent rain has scuppered all but one competition at Sidmouth Golf Club, but it was pleasing to set the Streatham Trophy off on the first of its four rounds over the winter period.
With a really competitive opening score of 44 points, Mark Bathard and Adrian Baldwin took top spot on the leaderboard ahead of Saju Patidar and Fionn Wardrop coming out ahead of a clutch of pairings, all on 43.
Among those taking third were Phil Spencer and Mike Davis who, you might remember, are defending champions, having only won last winter’s competition in September. This having been delayed for the reasons of both weather and lockdown.
They are nicely placed to retain their title and the second leg on January 16, will be another chance to strengthen their cause.
Finally, despite members missing out on the various Christmas dinners and the annual Christmas Draw they would have enjoyed in years past, Sidmouth Golf Club wishes everyone a happier 2021.
