Honiton Town 2, Colaton Raleigh 1

Division 2

Two league fixtures in the last seven weeks, and two defeats, has caused Colaton Raleigh’s league campaign to stall, with a lack of cutting edge in front of goal contributing to their latest defeat, writes Ken Woodsford.

In a hard-fought and goalless first half, Raleigh created and missed the better scoring opportunities.

The main talking point in the first 45 minutes, however, was the denial of a stonewall penalty decision when Jake Boyland was felled in the box.

This gained even more relevance, when Honiton were awarded a penalty from a similar incident in the 65th minute which proved to be their match-winning goal.

Honiton had taken the lead in the 47th minute when Raleigh failed to clear a corner kick.

The penalty decision then made it 2-0, with the visitors pulling a goal back through Jordan Cooper in the 85th minute. The Honiton goal was under siege for the final few minutes, but they held on to take the three points.

The two teams meet again in four weeks’ time, in the quarter final of the Devon Senior Cup.

Raleigh know they will have to be much sharper in attack, and stronger in defence if they are to progress against their local rivals.
