A stunning goal from Russell Coombs that would have graced any Barclays Premiership ground was not enough to give his side the precious three points they so desperately needed.

A stunning goal from Russell Coombs that would have graced any Barclays Premiership ground was not enough to give his side the precious three points they so desperately needed. Halwill came to Byes Lane full of confidence and top of the table following their 3-1 win at home to Bow, but it was skipper Coombs who put the Seagulls ahead after 10 minutes. He headed home what supporters were calling one of the best goals ever seen at Sidbury. Every player had a touch of the ball as they swept through Halwill with ease, and Dan Norman provided the final ball for Coombs to score his 16th of the season. Kevin Dorman had a chance to double the lead but the visiting keeper pulled off a superb save from close range, Ben Clay went close from a corner that hit the bar but, as the chances were going begging, Halwill levelled with a strike from 10 yards from a corner that wasn't dealt with. The second half saw Sidbury have most of the play and they almost grabbed the winner when Dan Churchill crossed for Coombs, who fired over from six yards while under pressure from a determined Halwill defender. This is a result that leaves the Seagulls with a lot to do. They go to promotion seeking Upottery this Saturday and three points there will put them back in contention for a promotion place themselves. Assistant manager Graham Beer said: "We were on top for most of the game but they had a few good experienced players who knew how to frustrate the opposition. Saying that, if we had taken the chances that we keep creating, the game could have been over by half time."
