Carp anglers are enjoying the early spell of hot summer weather, the Carp have spawned are eager to feed. They are basking in the sunshine and can be tempted with a nice surface fish bait.

Tony Fordham fished Willow Pool using dog biscuit on a pole. He saw what looked like a good fish and lowered the biscuit in front of it and, after quite a lengthy battle, landed a fine common Carp of 11lbs 4oz.

Jasper King from Kingskerswell was fishing with his father, again fishing the surface but this time with breadcrust. The reward for his effort was two carp of 8lbs 2oz and 7lbs 4oz. I fished the same pool with my granddaughter Brooke-Marie Reynolds for the Silver fish and had a great time catching Roach and Perch.

The beaches are producing plenty of Smoothhounds with Tim parsons of Exmouth SAC finding one of 6lbs 10oz from a South Devon beach, whilst members of Honiton SAC fished a rover competition on the North coast finding plenty of the species, along with some Rays, Bass, Bull huss and the usual Dogfish, Tom Travers, Adam Taylor and Wayne Hand being particularly successful.

Phil Hayle also fished the North coast and landed a superb Smoothhound of 13lbs, a great fish from the shore. Xsara Whittle fished the Plymouth shoreline and had a great tussle with a Conger Eel weighing in at 17 lbs.

On the boats, Pollack can still be found on the wrecks with the best of the week falling to Ken Russell, a fish weighing 13lbs. Richard Dutica landed a 4lbs 8oz John Dory. Dave Phipps fished out from Start Point, where plenty of Huss, dogfish and small congers were boated, along with a superb Undulate Ray of 14lbs.

Stuart Pike, skipper of Orca from Beer beach, reports a 25lb Tope to an un-named angler, this lively fish was eventually boated after taking itself around five other anglers lines before being photographed and released.
