An injury-strewn Sidmouth side entertained a very difficult Bridport side at Sidford on Sunday morning.

This was the sort of game Sidmouth had been relishing, being a fairly small pack.

They seemed to be able to outplay a lot of bigger packs, mainly due to their superior fitness and skill levels that summer training has provided.

The majority of the first half was played in Bridport's 22, some great forward pressure created useful quick ball to allow the probing Sidmouth threequarters to keep the pressure on the Bridport line.

Unfortunately, the new lad, Paddy, picked up an injury to his collarbone after a very physical Bridport tackle. The first promising attack saw Jay Pierson bundled into touch in the corner. Soon after, still in the 22, Sidmouth won a scrum and the ball flew along the line for wingman Olly Tollerfield.

Shayler converted and Sidmouth turned up the pressure with the forwards working hard. Ben Stokes, Mike Bond and Sam Loader all tackled well and were driving the opposition back at every opportunity. Olly T got his next two tries from similar build up play to the first, Harry Shayler converted one. At half time it was 19-0. The second half saw Bridport starting stronger, but Sidmouth's defence was resolute. The only score of the second half saw Olly Blyth starting to look back at his best. He cut a great line and picked up a fantastic pass from Shayler to beat the cover defence and cross the line out wide.

This was a solid team performance from a side that are showing a lot of potential this year.

Man of Steel was awarded to Jack Sowden.
