Point-to-point horse racing enthusiasts will be heading back to the stunning location of Bratton Down, Bratton Flemming next weekend where it’s the turn of the Exmooor to host the event on Sunday (June 4), writes Donna Harris.

This is one of the most attractive picnic venues in the racing calendar, and with the summer weather looking fair, a great family day out is on offer with the Teapes Tyres-sponsored pony racing heading up the action at 12.45pm followed by the main six race card commencing at 2pm.

The feature race of the day looks to be the Moore Scarrott Accountants-sponsored men’s open race, having attracted some of the top horses and jockeys from around the country such as the Michael Bowen entries Universal Soldier, Flying Eagle and Deadly Move, and There’s No Panic who was a winner here at the last meeting under National Champion jockey Will Biddick, and Broken Eagle from the Alan Hill team are all among those hoping to gain extra points to seal the championships before the end of the season.

The local trainers and jockeys will also be out in force and Every Breakin Wave for trainer Claire Hitch looks the form horse to take the opening members race.

The Lizard King and Clenagh Castle look to be the two that stand out in the Rossettes Direct-sponsored restricted race. Prolific winning Start Royal from the Alan Hill team has 25 wins to his credit plus two Hunter Chase wins and would be hard to catch if turing up for the ladies open race.

Loch Inch is another outside raider who should be feared and is entered in the members conditions race, along with Fly West and Deadly Move. With the final race of the day also attracting some good entries such as Pistol Shoot, Heaven’s Choice and Tuck’s Bergin.

Alongside the stunning backdrop view of Exmoor, on course facilities include a number of trade stands, hot food and refreshments, bar and bookies all contributing to the atmosphere of the day. Entrance to the course is £10 per car and driver, £10 per passenger up to a max of £30 per car.

Children under 16 free and only dogs on leads welcome. Early bird discount e-tickets can be obtained via www.pointingdc.co.uk

The course is located at Bratton Down, Bratton Fleming 9m NE of Barnstaple on A399, 11m N of South Molton, with a postcode of EX31 4SG.
