Ottery St Mary CC are facing a fight to void relegation from C Division East in the Devon Cricket League after going down to a heavy defeat at Sandford 2nds.
The home side batted first and a decent opening stand was eclipsed by a superb 149-partnership for the fourth wicket, as Lawrence Walker (89 no) and Tom Williams frustrated the Ottery bowlers.
Sandford finished with a handsome total of 244/3, with the Ottery wickets shared between Henry Mutter, Freddie Eul-Baker and Matt Jeacock.
The reply never really gained any momentum and Ottery were left reeling on 28/6. In the end, only Mutter (16) and number 11 Will Harrison (13) reached double figures, as Ottery were bowled out for 75 and a 169-run defeat.
Ottery are currently second from bottom in the table and this weekend represents a massive game, as they travel to Whimple, who are currently propping up the table and yet to win this season.
