Sidmouth Ladies had a fantastic day for the Susan Bawden silver salver bowmaker competition and the winners with a great score of 69 were Sheila Faulkner, Marie Timms and Maria Clapp.

Closely followed on their heels in second place, on countback, with a 68 were Angela Coles, Yvonne Anning and Catherine Walden.

Roger Bawden, ex Captain and President of the club, joined the ladies for a drink after the match and presented the salver to the winning team in memory of his late wife Susan who was an active member of the club.

Sidmouth Seniors travelled to Axe Cliff, having won the first leg quite comfortably at home, but expecting a much tougher encounter on the cliffs above Seaton. There were splendid Sidmouth wins for Bernie Millward and Len Wright by 6 & 5; and Mike Dibble and Ray Gunston by 6 & 4. The other three pairings sadly all went down, so the result was a win for Axe Cliff by 3 matches to 2.

Last week the seniors were again in action, this time against Dartmouth. Having lost the away fixture 1 - 4, Sidmouth were keen to repair the damage.

The first pairing of Phil Spencer and Paul Blay had an easy game of it when the opposition captain had to play alone because of a late withdrawal. His woes were further exacerbated when Paul birdied the first hole and they never looked back, winning 6 & 5.

The next pairing of Hugh Dorliac and Alan Billinghurst had an interesting game with the Dartmouth lowest handicapper (4) playing with the highest (38) getting 31 shots. However, despite losing the first hole, the challenge never materialised and they didn't lose another hole, running out winners 7 & 5.

The next match with David Cowler and Brian Rice was very much closer needing a 'knee-trembler' putt on the last green to win 1-up. Dartmouth, however, were expecting good things of their next pairing, they having not lost in the previous 5 matches.

True to form, they went 2-up after nine but some excellent play from Chris Grubb assisted by Vernon Ruffle pulled the match back to all-square at the finish.

Both the next pairings of Steve Nunn & Bernie Millward and Richard Seaver & Ray Gunston got off to a good starts and were never down and they ran out 3 & 2 and 5 & 4 winners respectively. The home result of 5 and a half to a half meant that Sidmouth finished up overall winners over the two legs.
