Our congratulations go to Sidmouth bowler Susie Bonnell for last week receiving her well-earned County Badge.

Last week was also pretty busy with two touring teams. The first was from Oxford and brought with them some seven playing rinks and plenty of visitors. The weather was wonderful and if that wasn't enough, they beat us on 5 of the 7 rinks.

The final score was 92 Sidmouth 134 Oxford. Our best rink was Mary Meadows, Derek Mounford, Janice Quinn and Captain David Timms 21-14.

Then came a team from Victoria Park, Bristol. This time with five playing teams and, once again, several visitors. We fared much better against these visitors, but we were very hospitable and served them a Devon Cream Tea, which they thoroughly enjoyed. This was served by Anita and Chris and the bar supervised by Tony and myself.

Sidmouth won on four rinks and our fifth rink just lost by one shot. Although thunderstorms were predicted, we were lucky enough not to have a single drop of rain whilst playing. Our best rink of the day was Denis Griffiths, Allan Davis, Sue Turner and skip Mike Borst, winning 27 -12. The overall score finished at an impressive Sidmouth 115 - Victoria Park 75.

Finally, on Saturday, September 25, Sidmouth Bowls Club are holding an Open Day. This is being held on our indoor rinks (so no worry about the weather), so why not come along for a FREE half hour taster session with one of our friendly coaches.

If you enjoy the bowls experience, you can then sign up for three coaching sessions. Bowling is a great sport and suitable for all ages and standards. Sidmouth is lucky enough to have both indoor and outdoor greens, so, if you wish, you can bowl the whole year round.

Just turn up with soft sole shoes / trainers or even thick socks, between 11am and 1pm or 2pm and 4pm. Bowls will be provided and a great opportunity to sample this fabulous sport in a friendly environment.
