Sidmouth Golf Club hosted the annual match against the Royal Marines and the fixture was followed by an excellent meal, writes Hugh Dorliac.
All matches were a tight affair and it began with Lester Wilmington and Bob Welsman, who was stand-in for the crocked captain, against the Royal Marines’ team captain Stu Morgan and Dan Roberts, who gained the upper hand before going on to win, two up.
Pat McCormack and Mike Dommett came good with a squeaky one up finish as did Steve Milton and Brian Leach on the same score.
The next two matches were halved when the Trevor Kerridge/Alan Malcolm and Jeremy Holden/Bob Webber pairings held off spirited attacks from their opponents. The Royal Marines won a consolation last match against Paul Renken, back from his holidays, and Ray Gunston (on permanent holiday!) with a score of two-and-one, making the final score 4-2 to the home team.
