Doug Goodall, who has done a marvellous job over the past year, handed the captaincy over to Nigel Sharp at the Christmas Dinner held at the club on Monday of this week.

Forty-one senior golfers and their wives attended the dinner which is held over two days to accommodate the numbers

Goodall gave a resume of the year including reference to the hole-in-one by John Game

During the past year the seniors raised over £1,000 for charity.

Goodall also handed out an award to Chris Ashley who is one of the best senior golfers playing off a handicap of eight who played in both the Paleret and Emerton Court teams this year.

Thanks were given to the senior team who organise matches, competitions and dinners throughout the year.

A special thanks were given to Kerry and Wayne who have provided excellent meals during the season.

Goodall handed Sharp his senior captain’s jumper and received in return a framed photograph of the first green and clubhouse.

The departing captain closed saying how much he had enjoyed being captain and wished the new man the best of luck during his year when the East Devon Golf Club will be celebrating 125 years since it started in 1889

A special week is planned to mark the milestone including linking up with Minchinhampton Golf club in the Cotswolds who are also celebrating 125 years.
