Sidmouth 2nds are finding life pretty straightforward in the new format of all-through league cricket as they chalked up a fourth successive win against 1st XI opposition, defeating visiting Braunton by 10 wickets at the Fortfield.

Visiting Braunton clearly saw what looked another superb Fortfield batting track and wasted no time in opting to bat first after winning the toss.

However, on the day, as good as the track was, the bowling and support fielding of the home side was what ultimately determined that the contest would not last any more than 58 overs!

Braunton lost their first wicket with just 13 runs on the board with Byron Knowles, who took the new ball with Thomas Simmons, making the breakthrough thanks to an Ed Hurley catch. That catch was to be the first of nine held by the Sidmouth players!

It was soon 30-2 with Daley Holmes taking the catch off Simmons and, by the time the Fortfield score board was showing 56 runs as the total, there were six wickets already lost!

At 61-7, this after a Charlie Dibble delivery knocked over the stumps, an early finish looked on the cards.

However, the eighth wicket doubled the score, before a Ben Sapiecha catch off the bowling of Daley Holmes left Braunton on 128-8 and just three runs were added before the final two wickets fell with a Byron Knowles catch off Sapiecha and a Thomas catch off Daley Holmes left the visiting side all out for 131 in 34.1 overs.

All six bowlers had success with the best figures being the 3-25 return from Toby Seldon. Charlie Dibble was the only bowler to send down a full complement, with his nine over return being 2-27 and Daley Holmes also had a brace with his figures being 2-18 from 5.1 overs. Single wickets fell to Thomas Simmons, 1-26 from seven, Ben Sapiecha, 1-8 from two, and Byron Knowles, 1-28 from six.

As for the run chase, that was almost as straightforward as the session had been for Sidmouth with the ball.

Openers Isaac Thomas and Nick Mansfield needed just one ball more than 23 overs to complete a 10 wicket win with Thomas unbeaten on 72, with 11 fours and Mansfield was not out 40 with four fours.
