Archant

Sidmouth went down to a 13.5, 6.5 defeat when they visited Swanage for a level play golf croquet match, writes David Butler.

Taking part in their first away contest of the season on a beautiful sunny day, the morning session performance of the Sidmouth team did not match the weather!

Only team captain Ian Simpson contributed to the team score and at the luncheon break the home side led seven-and-a-half to a half!

The splendid lunch provided by the home team clearly inspired Sidmouth to better things, with Andrew Thomas on his team debut winning two singles games, as did Keith Thorley. With further contributions from Ian Simpson and Philip Harris, Sidmouth won six of the afternoon singles games, but all the damage had been done in the first session.
