In the Charles Stanley Monday Stableford at Sidmouth Golf Club the competition eventually got underway in the afternoon following the overnight deluge to enable Mark Thomas to get his second win in as many weeks, writes John Rockey

Following the heavy rain the course was set up for Thomas’s long and accurate play, but his poor start with a bogey on the first as well as his blob on the final hole could have cost him dearly, had it not been for his four birdies on the back nine.

In spite of not adding to his points total on the last hole, the Thomas back nine was just sufficient to beat David Pepperell, also with 39 points, into second place.

Pepperell had a good start to his round with a birdie on the first, but two double bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes halted his progress, but steady play from then on garnered his points and his three under par score brought his handicap down to seven.

In third place for the second week running was Neil Faulkner with 37 points which could have been much better had he not had a blob on the 17th hole.
