The third round of the Livery Dole Mitsubishi Winter League 2015-16 was played on Sunday in reasonable weather conditions and some great scoring was achieved, writes John Barnard.

In first place, with a score of 56.0, 10 under par, was the team of Mark Thomas, Lee Wenham and Jerry Russell. They started well, birdying the first two holes and then birdied holes six and seven, the latter with a monster putt by Jerry.

They seemed to like birdying holes in pairs as they did it again on holes seventeen and eighteen.

In second place were Simon Jones, Lawrence Hill and Paul Hitchcock who scored 57.1. They also birdied the first two and last two holes but didn’t get quite as many in between. In third place were Vernon Ruffle, Geoff Lory and Graham Davies. They scored 57.7 which was a good score off their higher handicaps as the 10 per cent difference rule doesn’t favour the mid or high handicappers. They still managed quite a few birdies and obviously played well.

In the league table, Simon Jones leads with 10 points, closely followed by Graham Davies and Mark Thomas on 9.
