Trevor Kerridge, the President of Sidmouth Golf Club, raided his piggy-bank as well as the money saved up from all the winnings from his recent run of good form to provide some excellent prizes for his President’s Day competition, writes John Rockey.

Those players starting in the morning had the best of the weather and generally the better scores came from those playing early, as around lunchtime the weather deteriorated from a very pleasant morning to bring thunder showers which at one stage threatened a suspension of play.

The competition was split into three sections with the men being able to elect to play off either the white tees or the shorter course off the yellow tees, with the ladies playing off their red tees.

The best men’s score off the white tees was 39 points by Colin Mitchell who narrowly held off Carl Sheehan with 38 points and Ron Davies with 37 points.

Off the yellow tees David Cowler came in with 42 points to easily win this section from Mick Baden and Sam Searle who both had 36 points.

In the Ladies section Sheila Thomson blew away her opposition with a six-under par score of 42 points which was even more impressive as she was endured the worst of the conditions during her round.

Second was Coral Roberts with a good 37 points with Angela Coles third with 36 points.
