Sidmouth bowlers had another good week with three victories from as many matches, writes Ron Cook.

First up an East Devon derby with Seaton the visiting opposition.

The four rinks were shared, but Sidmouth were proclaimed overall victors by a score line of 67-58.

The best of the home rinks were those of Mary Bristow, Bill Dunbar, Sylvia Cook and Frank Adlam with a comfortable 27-8 margin whilst Harry Carpenter, Dennis Moore, Elaine Reed and Gordon Blood triumphed 22-13.

Next up as visitors were tourists from Rotherfield in East Sussex on Friday.

This was the final game of their tour and with it being the opening day of the Folk Week there was plenty to distract bowlers!

The Folk Week fun was also evident on the green as there were some smart dance moves on show during ends.

Sidmouth took the match honours with three rinks to two and a margin of 87 shots to 71.

Betty Farmer, Bert Hague and Ron Cook won 22-5, Ken Bridgman, Paddy Wrench and Val Newnham were 21-13 winners and Bill Dunbar, Jason Quinn and Eileen Hewett bagged a 19-12 success.

The third and final match of the week saw Sidmouth entertain Nailsea who brought eight mixed rinks for their annual visit.

The home side once again acquitted themselves well winning seven out of the eight rinks played.

The home results were; Mike Bolland, Dennis Moore, Paddy Wrench and skip Brian Smith (23-13); Maurie Ervine, Gerry Hargrave, Maurice Watson and skip John Mason (18-17); Ann England, Jill Lewis, Mitch Mitchum and Ray Tallent (30-8); Barry Knight, Mary Bristow, Jim Wrench and Jill Bishop (26-14); John Greenaway, S Bonnell, Margaret King and Jason Quinn (22-19); Anita Mason, Gordon Brown, Mary Smith and Chas Coates (23-18); Betty Farmer, John Brown, Janice Quinn and Ralph Brooks (19-15).

Meanwhile the Sidmouth Over-60s A and B squads continue to do well in their respective Exeter league campaigns, both sides claimed another win in the past week.
