SOHC Ladies’ 1st XI 3, ECVH Ladies 1

First league match at a sunny Sidmouth pitch against local rivals ECVH saw the home team dominate in a thrilling 3-1 finish, writes Jodie Parsons.

The first goal came through a short corner, stick stopped by Hannah Watts and struck into the goal by Lea Pidgeon. Anna Rowson, Player of the Match, was persistent in her efforts and passed several defenders, laying off the ball with a perfect shot to captain Jodie Parsons who secured Sidmouth’s second goal.

Sidmouth continued to attack in the second half with several shots on target, but the opposition goalkeeper was relentless and made many impressive saves.

A scramble in front of the Sidmouth goal led to an EVCH goal, but Sidmouth stepped up their attack.

Sarah Roberts and Hannah Watts made good runs, and another short corner was secured. Lea Pidgeon had a clean strike and Parsons deflected on the reverse stick which resulted in a third goal for Sidmouth.

Teignmouth 1, SOHC Ladies’ 2nd XI 0

The match started well with Sidmouth and Ottery having most possession and attempts at goal, writes Emily Ackland.

However, an early mistake in the first half, by the Teign umpires, led to Teign scoring an undeserved goal.

Sidmouth and Ottery fought back hard and had many attempts to score, but seemed unable to get it in the back of the net.

By the end, most of the defence had pushed up into the attacking “D” and with great runs by Nicky Bishop and Karen Dutton, a goal seemed inevitable. With a minute to go a short-corner was disallowed and SOHC didn’t have another chance to score.
