Tipton embarked on their annual three-match tour to Cornwall last weekend.

They lost to a young side at Praze-an-Beeble on Friday evening before taking on Nancledra on Saturday.

After being put into bat Tipton lost their first wicket with opener Nick Wright clean bowled first ball!

However, a 120-run partnership between Keith Collins, who’s 53 was his first Tipton half century, and Justin Quick (58) repaired the damage.

Captain Jim Bugler, with a patient 14, aided by an unbeaten 19 from Dave Dawson saw the total reach 173-7 off 40 overs.

Nancledra batted well in the early overs, reaching 58 before losing a wicket. Good bowling by the two David’s Birch and O’Higgins, kept the scoring rate down. It was the introduction of Phil Wright which changed the game, bagging four swift wickets for just 13 runs in three overs!

With the ever-dangerous Davis James at the crease, victory was not certain. He was dropped twice on the boundary, including once by the unfortunate Nick Wright, before a sharply rising ball from Jim Bugler took the edge of his bat and Quick held a smart catch behind the stumps.

The remaining batsmen were winkled out with Phil Wright finishing with 5-21 and Bugler and Channon bagging a brace each as Tipton secured a 57-run victory.

Sunday saw a sterner test at Redruth where Mt Ambrose proved to be excellent hosts.

Another good innings by Phil Tolley (56) and an unbeaten 48 from Adam Gibbins laid the foundation of a good total of 205-6, with Joe Birch helping with a quick 29.

Tipton took an early wicket when Matt Williamson took a juggling catch off Mark Channon, but had to wait until the 14th over when David James, now playing for Tipton, bowled Simmons to claim a second wicket.

The hosts were always up with the asking rate and, despite another wicket for James, this time with the aid of a juggling catch from Dawson, they looked likely winners.

Just when a tight finish looked likely, 16 runs were taken from the 38th over and the winning runs were scored in the penultimate over. So there ended an enjoyable tour in great weather, for a change!
