With visitors Erratics arriving with light resources, skipper Jim Bugler agreed to a timed game with Tipton batting first, writes Phil Wright.

However, things did not go to plan with Dawson being bowled for a duck and the Erratics’ trio of bowlers giving little away. However, the reliable Phil Tolley with 115 not out and Robin Pickering with a fine 51 built a mammoth Tipton partnership of 182 for the second wicket.

The target of 206 was always likely to be too many for Erratics, but a fine 38 from opener Weaton held the innings together. Mark Channon with 4-26 was the pick of the Tipton bowlers with Steve Shaw claiming 3-24 including late order batsmen who should perhaps have had a draw in mind and not perished to injudicious shots. Erratics were dismissed for 142 leaving Tipton victors by 64 runs.

On Sunday, hosts Woodbury asked to bat first so their players could prepare the fine tea that had an Indian flavour. Tipton had plenty of time to work up an appetite as George Jarman (97) and Rob Jarvis (48) put on 130 for the second wicket. Tipton fought back well and took 8-33 runs with Dave Alford claiming a hat-trick in figures of 3-32. Paul Williamson bowled well taking 2-20. However, a last wicket unbroken partnership of 64 by Nalin Chouhan (68) & Mahesh Kumar took Woodbury’s score to 255-9 and put the Tipton bowlers off their tea-time bhajis.

In reply, no Tipton batsman could master the Woodbury bowling, Dave Alford top scoring with 22. Tipton mustered just 119 runs and lost by 136 runs.
