Tipton St John were well beaten by visitors Chulmleigh on Saturday.

Conditions were not easy for batting and Chulmleigh progressed slowly not losing their first wicket until the 16th over when David O’Higgins trapped Darch leg before when he was on 27.

Encouraged by an earlier six he had thumped off the bowling of Phil Wright, the batsman attempted a repeat in the same over and was bowled for 20!

Kevin McMeeking claimed a wicket before Tom Birch took over bagging four wickets for just nine runs and he also struck to bag a run out with an excellent throw from the deep.

Chulmleigh closed on 133-8, a target which would be challenging for Tipton, but they started well, albeit slowly!

However, when Steve Walker was caught for 11 the remainder of the wickets tumbled in.

The duck count rose and players waddled their way back to the pavilion at a regular rate!

Jem Gillham, Steve Shaw, Al Mathews, Tom Birch and David O’Higgins were amongst the batsmen not to trouble the scorers. Only Matt Williamson and David Birch with two runs each and McMeeking with seven, gave the scorer any work to do.

The duck shoot was watched from the other end by opener Dave Dawson who managed to score 17 in 92 minutes before he fell to a leg before wicket decision.

An all out total of 59 was not what the team was looking for in their final outing before this weekend’s annual tour to Cornwall!
