Generosity ruled the day at Tipton St John where Tedburn St Mary were the visitors, writes Phil Hughes.

Tipton started well, reaching 98 before losing their second wicket when Phil Tolley was caught on the boundary for 64.

Dave Alford followed him two runs later for 24 and it prompted the fall of another five wickets for just eight runs. The generous captain of Tedburn agreed to wait for Kevin McMeeking’s late arrival which allowed a last wicket stand of 20 with Phil Wright who contributed 19. Andy Coren took 5-20.

Tipton’s total of 134 was never likely to be enough, but great bowling from Steve Shaw and David Birch reduced Tedburn to 17-5 with Shaw claiming 3-14 and Birch 2-6, both off eight overs. However, some generous bowling and improved batting swung the game back in Tedburn’s favour and although O’Higgins, Wright and Alford all took a wicket each, even Adam Gibbins late dismissal of Lewis for 27 could not prevent Tedburn winning by one wicket with three overs to spare.
