Tipton St John 5, Cullompton Rangers Reserves 0 Tipton started this match positively and Kev Sexton put the ball in the back of the net after just two minutes, but was ruled to have been offside, writes Richard Williams.

A minute later James Callard, making his Tipton debut, again set up Sexton whose shot was saved.

On four minutes Sexton was again close to scoring when a fine cross low from the right, from Adrian Small was just in front of his outstretched foot inches from the goal line.

On 12 minutes Small himself hit a long range effort straight at the keeper.

It was 19 minutes before Cullompton had their first chance, a close range shot, which was well saved by Jack Walker.

Tipton took the lead on 24 minutes when, following a good move on the right, Sexton lobbed the advancing keeper.

Within a minute their lead was doubled when Callard hit a really high lob from just outside of the area into the back of the Cullompton net.

On the half hour Hadyn Banfield made a charging run into the area only to be hacked down from behind for a penalty. Sexton stepped up and celebrated his birthday with his second goal with a shot that gave the keeper no chance.

Four minutes later Tipton made the score 4–0 when Banfield swung in a corner from the right which was met perfectly by the head of Small.

On 50 minutes Banfield had a twenty yard shot saved and four minutes later he hit a great free kick from just outside of the area which the Cullompton keeper did extremely well to tip over the bar for a corner.

In the 58th minute Banfield was again involved with good link up play between himself and Callard before Callard shot just over the bar.

Callard again went close six minutes later when he received a fine ball from Sexton before beating a defender and getting off a shot which was saved.

On 72 minutes Tipton put together a fine flowing move from back to front, the full length of the pitch and crossing from right to left before Nick Feeney hit his shot over the bar.

Three minutes later Callard did extremely well to win the ball from a defender and lay off a great ball to Feeney who calmly slotted the ball low past the keeper to make it 5-0.

On 76 minutes Callard had another shot saved and, four minutes later, he hit another shot over the bar and this proved to be the last clear chance of the game.

Callard had a superb debut, (and there were fine performances from the whole team), and came close to being Man of the Match, but that honour went to Sam Baker who moved temporarily back from midfield into central defence and was faultless throughout, not only defending but providing great link up play with the midfield and attack.
