Sidmouth Men lost narrowly by six shots away at Bridport , although rinks were shared three each, writes Ron Cook.

Best winning rinks for Sidmouth were Ray Tallent, Carol Keeting, Derek Limpus and skip Eileen Hewett 28-11; Paddy Chew, Jean Mountford, Mary Price and skip John Chew 21-18; Betty Farmer, Dave Lever, Ken Hutton and skip Mike Borst 18-16.

The next friendly was against Welland Valley Tourists on six mixed rinks, who won by a narrow margin of two shots, 104-106. Sidmouth had two wins and a draw with the best rink Sue Miller, Paul Waller, Sheila Graham and skip Mike Borst scoring 27-6.

The next visitors were Bristol and Swansea who proved a very strong side winning by 118-90. Sidmouth managed to draw one rink and win by the narrowest of margins 16-15 on one other, Trevor Wells, Margaret Colman, Sue Mison and skip Alan Matthews.

In the same week, Exonia brought four mixed rinks, resulting in a comprehensive win for Sidmouth 94-40. Rita Daw, Mary Price and skip Bill Turner 20-9; Frank Adlam, Christa Turner and skip Alan Matthews 27-9; Elain Reed, Ron Denning and skip Val Newnham 30-7; Dennis Moore, Sheila Graham and skip Derek Limpus 17-15.

The first County Trophy Match against Seaton saw an excellent result for Sidmouth, winning three out of four rinks 78-68: Tony Holland, Ron Graham, Bert Hague and skip Peter Wilson 21-20; Ken Bridgman, Jim Wrench, Brian Smith and skip Mike Borst 19-15; were the home teams. Ray Tallent. Mike Smith. Laurence Tobias and skip Bill Turner 22-15; Trevor Wells, Alan Matthews, John Mason and skip Bob Seldon 16-18.

The second match against Feniton resulted in a draw 82-82 . Home teams were: Ivan Robins. Trevor Wells, Bob Daniels and skip Mike Borst 24-25; Ray Tallent, John Chew, John Mason and skip Bob Seldon 23-11. Away: Tony Holland, Peter Mison, Bert Hague and skip Norman Brimson 17-28; Ken Bridgman, Jim Wrench, Cliff Hewett and skip Brian Smith 18 -18.

The second round of Top Club was an away match at Chardstock with an excellent result for Sidmouth, winning three rinks to two as in the first round. Ivan Robins won the two wood singles 21-16; Tony Holland, Bert Hague and skip Norman Brimson won the Triples 20-9; Trevor Wells, Maurice Watson, Cliff Hewett and Bob Daniels won the fours 18-16. Well done to all players.

Progress in the over-60s Triples league is proving hard for all teams. A squad have had two consecutive wins, each with six points, but are still rooted second from bottom. Unfortunately, the two teams above them have games in hand which could be a real set back for us if they should win those. The B squad have managed a win on one rink only for each of the last three weeks, leaving them second from bottom.

The C team, playing in Division six, are mid-table having picked up four shots last week but, with two games in hand, are well-placed to improve on that.
