Sidmouth Town will be hoping that the dry days of Thursday and Friday enable them to stage their South West Peninsula League (SWPL) Eastern Division match at home to Crediton United tomorrow (Saturday).

Both Town and Crediton United have been ‘starved’ of football of late! Since Boxing Day there have been seven Saturday SWPL match days with just 17 fixtures played. Town and United have played once in that period – both were in action on January 13 with Town losing 2-1 to St Martins and Crediton United winning 2-1 at home to Axminster Town.

Town boss Josh Stunell says: “We certainly need a game! This current period of inactivity is a big issue. In our case, we do use the Colyton all-weather surface to train on, but getting out there is not so easy for our Exeter-based players, so we have not seen much of each other over the past couple of months!”

Town and Crediton United have already met twice this season with the first league game going the way of the Mid Devon men 1-0 before Town won the meeting in the cup 3-2. Stunell says: “Both previous games were close things. They [United] are a good side, but as I have said before, we do seem to raise our game against the top sides. If this game is played then I think a key will be our youthful fitness, enthusiasm and energy – and, of course, ability. It will be a bit like starting a season all over again given the recent lack of games, but it’s the same for the opposition and indeed all the other teams.”

The Town meeting with Crediton United at Manstone Lane kicks off at 3pm.
