With the Jubilee celebrations happening, running took a bit of a backseat last weekend, writes Di Puzey.
However, the Talaton Trotter was held last Saturday afternoon as part of the Village Day festivities - 6.5 miles of country lanes, rutted fields, woodland paths, styles (no mud this year) and a few hills. Six Sidmouth RC members took part, feeling a bit old and unfit, but all surpassed their expectations.
Congratulations to Lucy Owen who was first lady with a brilliant run. Di Puzey, in her first race for 10 months and half a stone heavier, staggered in just under the hour. John Perratt set off relaxed but soon got involved in a race against a Honiton runner and won, finishing with a sprint.
Brian Gosling found the race excessively hot but had a great run. John Doherty ran well too, trying to keep Brian in his sights. Rachel Burrow had a good run with a great finish.
Thanks to Robin and James for a well-organised run with a great atmosphere and yummy cake. Don't forget, Umborne Ug, 6pm, Saturday, June 9.
