The first Saturday of the month usually heralds the monthly medal at Sidmouth Golf Club, writes John Barnard.

The Bater Removals Medal was the prize for this latest month and, with some of the fire taken out of the course with the recent rain, the greens are fast and true, and so a good test was there for the players.

Winning Division One was Kevin Legg with an excellent net 63. Three birdies in the last six holes made the score although a double bogie on the 17th messed up what could have been a great round. In second place was Craig Melluish, continuing his fine run of form with a net 65. Third was Matt Bavington with a net 66.

In Division Two the scoring was even better! Winning, with a net 61 was Roy Turner with a net 61, pipping the sponsor, Nick Bater, on countback. After a steady round, Roy birdied the 17th, only to double bogie the 18th which must have frustrated him. Nick played a consistent round with a number of pars but his bogie on the 18th cost him a medal. In third was Jeremy Holden with a net 63, continuing his fine form and he received another exceptional shot reduction to bring him down to 14.

The scoring wasn’t as good in Division Three, but Adrian Baldwin (Basher) won with a net 67, a clear five shots ahead of Vernon Ruffle on 72 and Ray Scott on 76.
