U16s romp to 9-0 victory

The boys continued their recent run of good form with a resounding victory at Bradninch, which keeps them handily-placed at third in the league, writes Dickie Seldon.

Sidmouth shot off the blocks with three goals in the first five minutes to set up a platform for a cultured display of good football. Toby Seldon, who has shown patience and a great attitude in being a sub for much of the season, took full advantage of both a starting place and a cash ‘goal incentive’ by scoring with his first touch, lobbing the ‘keeper from 25 yards and, after Sam Gosling had scored, he added another.

Will Jenkins set up attacks with slick one-twos and intelligent simple passing. Other players followed this example with Isaac Thomas and Riordan Deehan-Jackson using the space in front of them to take a touch, look up, and keep possession, building considered attacks. ‘RDJ’ got his name on the scoresheet, following up from a corner, and skipper Doug Still waltzed through the Bradninch defence to score the fifth.

The 2nd half saw Lee Clayden, marking his return to the squad, tear down the left flank to score a great goal with his first attack. Will Sanders drove a shot home before having a fine header chalked off by the linesman’s flag! Clayden got a second, followed in style by Still for the ninth. Seldon only slightly marred his performance by missing a penalty for his hat-trick.

eniton U12s 4, Sidmouth U12 Warriors 4

Sidmouth Warriors U12’s fought hard in their local derby league match away to Feniton but had to settle for a share of the spoils, writes Simon Jones.

The Warriors were 3-1 up by half time, an inviting corner from Jack Silk being headed home by Kade Hayman, and two from Tom Cooke after Feniton had levelled.

The half time team talk was along the lines of keep it tight at the back, keep the ball and create chances of our own. What happened for the first 15 minutes was completely different with Feniton scoring 2 to equalise. Untimely injuries to both Buckland and Jones seemed to galvanise the Warriors who then woke up and started gaining confidence and creating chances. Woodruff was outstanding at the back and with Silk weaving his magic on the wing the Warriors began to take control of the game. Sinker was put clean through but their goalie made himself big and thwarted the chance. Silk was putting over some cracking crosses which the Warriors failed to capitalise on. Then with 2 minutes left a lovely through ball from Lowe saw Elliot Perez outmuscle the defender to leave him one on one with their keeper , who once again came out on top. Ollie Perez in goal put in a top class performance for the Warriors and De Gruchy continues to impress in defence. The full time whistle blew, if only the Warriors could hold on to a lead!.

Pinhoe Pirates u10s 0

A rampant Sidmouth continued on the winning ways with an 8-0 win against Pinhoe

The match featured a second half hat-trick for Alex Mitchell, two for Thomas Rush and one apiece for Will Hollis, Ryan Griffiths and Dylan Lascelles, but these boys owe their goals to the wing wizards Tyler Wood on the left and Man of the Match Jordan Fowler on the right wing.

Sidmouth Town U10 Warriors 3, Broadclyst U10s 0

Sids had to work hard in their second game. With Harry Ensall in goal, calm, safe and secure, the defence of Lascelles and Griffiths were in total control. The midfield was Wood, Rush and Hollis who all worked hard tackling and setting up attacks against a good side.

Mitchell up front was causing trouble for Broadclyst’s defence. Hollis made it 1-0 from the penalty spot which capped off his Man of the Match performance.

The second goal was a rocket from the right foot of Jordan Fowler from long distance and Sidmouth sealed it when Ryan Griffiths popped up to make it 3-0.

Sidmouth U10 Raiders 2, Broadclyst 1

Raiders have been unlucky with some narrow defeats this season but came out on top in this exciting end-to -end game despite going a goal behind in the first half, writes Darren Salter.

Ben Scrivens and Theo Burne worked hard in defence and despite a solid midfield performance from Finley Morgan and George Salter, Broadclyst scored seconds before half time.

In the second half, Morgan continued to drive the side forward along with Cole Monaghan in midfield. A good corner from West resulted in Oliver Jones levelling the score. A fine clearance from Sinker and two great saves from Isaac James kept Broadclyst out. After Morgan beat two players on the right he crossed for Monaghan to strike the ball first time into the corner to win 2-1.

Sidmouth U10 Raiders 0 v Pinhoe 0

A hard fought midfield battle with few clear chances against Pinhoe ended with a 0-0 draw.

Glenn Sinker and Theo Burne coped well with the Pinhoe forwards. The real battle was in midfield where Finlay Morgan and George Salter were quick and strong in the tackle to set up Scott Gibson and Oliver Jones who linked up well in attack. Finlay Morgan had a fierce shot from distance that was well saved. In the second half Ben Scrivens and Thomas West dealt with some long balls and defended very well. Isaac James was forced to make a great save when he palmed away a long range shot heading for the top corner. Jake Jones and Scott Gibson chased the chances and Jake Jones got back to dribble out of danger and clear upfield. In an even half George Salter and Cole Monaghan were particularly strong in midfield with their tackling and running.

Sidmouth U10 Warriors 16, Millwey Purples 0

Sidmouth go marching on with their eighth consecutive victory, writes Grant Mitchell.

Goals were scored by Jake Jones (4) Alex Mitchell (4) Connor Mcnamara-Campbell (3) Ryan Griffiths(2) George Salter, Sam Pyne and Dylan Lascelles.

Excellent concentration was shown by keeper Harry Ensall who produced a fantastic late save. Tyler Wood did everything but score and his contribution was invaluable. A special mention for Millwey who kept their heads up and played in great spirit. They were a credit to their coach. Man of the Match: Jake Jones

Exmouth Ams, 3, Sidmouth U11 Warriors 5

Every one of Sidmouth's U11 Warriors showed tremendous stamina and belief to seal a thrilling and deserved victory away at Exmouth Amateurs last Saturday.

Sidmouth gave Exmouth too much space and time to attack early on. Eventually Ben Plowden was forced to make an excellent save, but the ball somehow squeezed over the line. As so often before, going one down galvanised the Warriors. Upfront Dyls Nicholas was full of commitment, while Toby Garrick's quick creative play down the left opened Exmouth's defence. In a frantic tit-for-tat period of play, Sidmouth equalised through Jacob Rice, Exmouth scored a second, Rice another, then Exmouth a third! The 3-2 scoreline flattered Exmouth as most of the quality and possession was Sidmouth's.

In the second half Sidmouth took control. Eventually the pressure led to Spalding's equaliser. Meanwhile excellent defending frustrated Exmouth. Sidmouth sensed a fourth goal. Louis Spalding shot, did it cross the line? The ref thought so. 4-3 to Sidmouth! Rice calmed nerves with a fifth for his hat trick. A fantastic match finished 5-3 .

11 Sidmouth Raiders 6, St Martin 0

This would seem like a whitewash, but the score could so easily been the other way around, writes Martin Spiller

In the first 10 minutes St Martin’s were in control, but goalie Oran Bramble’s brilliant saves put paid to any chance of a goal being scored.

The Raiders united and played some wonderful football. Luke Spiller scored the first goal, when captain Thomas Moore sent the ball from midfield. The second goal came before half time when James' flighting ball met Louis Adey’s head to score. Defenders Ben, Jimmy and Thomas Burhop controlled the game from the back, sending the ball up front every time St Martin’s tried to move forward.

In the second half, Luke Spiller’s shot rebounded off the post for George Lowe to have a clear shot into the net.

The whole of the Raiders’ team played well, passing between themselves with skill and team spirit. The fourth goal was made and scored by Louis Adey.

St Martin’s didn’t give up trying, but Sidmouth’s defence were determined to keep them at bay. Cian scored the fifth goal when a corner kick curved goalwards for him to send in. Towards the end, captain Thomas Moore was rewarded with a final goal, again from a corner.

Well done to the team for playing a outstanding game and showing such great team work.
